Caring for Your Heirloom Piece
Your TMC pieces are a reflection of your love story - a piece to cherish for a lifetime. Because you don’t just wear jewellery; you wear the meaning behind it. You wear, forever.
To preserve the radiance of your moissanite, lab-grown diamond or cultured keshi pearl piece, it’s essential to establish a routine of proper care. Here’s everything you need to know about maintaining its timeless beauty.
Ring Care Guide
Storing Your Ring
It can be tempting to slip your ring off and place it nearby, but this habit increases the risk of misplacing or damaging your treasured piece. To keep your ring secure, we recommend using our TMC ring box or pouch. Thoughtfully designed to protect your jewellery, it ensures your pieces remain protected, whilst at home or travelling.
At-Home Cleaning
Maintaining the radiance of your ring is simple with regular at-home care. To keep your piece as brilliant as the day it became yours, we recommend a gentle cleaning routine approximately once a week. Follow the easy, step-by-step guide available here to ensure your ring is well maintained for a lifetime of love.
Professional Cleaning & Servicing
We offer complimentary lifetime ring servicing. Included in this service, our jewellers will deep clean and polish your ring as well as conduct a thorough inspection. If required, we will also re-tip your prongs to ensure they remain strong and secure. Rhodium plating is also offered at an additional cost and ensures your white gold ring retains its radiant and lustrous appearance.
When to Remove Your Engagement Ring
While your ring is crafted to last a lifetime, there are moments when it’s best to remove your ring to protect it from unnecessary damage:
- Exercising: Lifting weights or using gym equipment can put pressure on the band and setting.
- Swimming: Cold water can cause your fingers to shrink, increasing the risk of your ring slipping off. Chlorine and saltwater can also affect metal integrity.
- Cleaning: Harsh household chemicals such as bleach can dull your ring’s shine and weaken the metal over time.
- Gardening: Soil can accumulate in the setting, and there’s always the risk of losing your ring amongst plants or grass.
- Showering: Soap, shampoo, and conditioner can leave a residue on your ring, dulling its shine over time. Slippery hands also increase the chance of your piece slipping off, and going down the drain.
Fine Jewellery Care Guide
Your beautiful fine jewellery has been meticulously crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, so you can cherish and wear your pieces every day. However, to preserve the brilliance and integrity of your pieces, your jewellery should be handled with care and protected from situations that could cause damage. Follow our care guide to ensure your treasured pieces remain as radiant as the day they became yours.
Storing Your Fine Jewellery
When not wearing your fine jewellery, proper storage is essential to prevent scratches, tarnishing, or accidental damage. We recommend using our TMC box or pouch, designed to keep your pieces secure and pristine. These storage solutions are ideal for protecting your jewellery both at home and while travelling.
At Home Cleaning
Maintaining the radiance of your pieces is simple with regular at home care. To keep your fine jewellery well cared for and as brilliant as the day it became part of your collection, we recommend a gentle cleaning routine approximately once a week.
Pearl jewellery should not be included in regular cleaning routines involving soaps or water. Pearls are delicate and should never be submerged or exposed to chemicals, as this can damage their natural lustre and integrity.
When In Doubt, Take It Off
If you’re ever unsure, it’s always best to remove your jewellery. Activities such as sleeping, swimming, gardening, exercising, showering, or even preparing meals can expose your jewellery to unnecessary risks, including loss or damage. Additionally, certain tasks can cause debris and buildup around your jewellery, diminishing its lustrous shine. Protect your pieces by storing them safely whenever you’re in doubt.
Cleaning and Household Duties
We recommend removing your fine jewellery during cleaning or when working with chemicals of any kind.
Exposure to harsh substances can react with the precious metals, potentially altering their appearance, and, over time, debris or chemicals trapped beneath the setting may dull the brilliance of your stones. By taking off your jewellery during household tasks, you help ensure your pieces will last a lifetime.
Jewellery Insurance
Your precious ring is one of a kind. One of the greatest ways to care for your ring is through arranging independent jewellery insurance. Here at TMC Fine Jewellers, we recommend Q Report Jewellery insurance. Undertaking insurance as such will be the best way to protect your fine jewellery for anything that is not covered in our Limited Lifetime Warranty. Please be aware that the above information is simply a guide and we recommend you undertake your own research and establish an understanding of the right insurance for you and your financial situation.
At TMC Fine Jewellers, bespoke is the art of creating jewellery as unique as the love it represents. From the first conversation to the final setting, every piece is meticulously crafted to honour your story. With the right care, your engagement ring will remain a beautiful testament to your journey together - today and always. Begin your journey.
